Fit, Fabric + Care

MARTIN - THIN TAPER fit
Our slimmest jean, the Martin has a tailored shape + tapered leg.
14" leg opening, 10" front rise, 35.5" inseam
Fits true to size. Take the next size down, if you are in between sizes.
This jean will stretch 1” with wear. If you start them comfortably snug (or ever-so-slightly-uncomfortably-snug), they will stretch out to be the next size up + a perfect fit.

FABRIC & CARE
100% Cotton. Made in the USA. Indigo may bleed.
When it's time: turn inside-out, wash cold separately. Hang or lay flat to dry.
For the very best break-in, we recommend 3-6 months of regular wear before washing.

Martin original raw jeans

I love the fit of the Martin’s and the 13 oz denim weight is perfect for year round wear in the South. The raw jeans break in and fit like a glove! Perfect jeans!!!

Excellent Quality and Fit

Recently bought 2 pairs of Jones (1 selvage raw and 1 washed) which I really love, but I only wear them with cowboy boots, which is almost never. SO, the Martins (which seem to fit everywhere exactly like the Jones except the Martins are tapered from the knee to the leg opening) are perfect for every day wear, and they look rad with my Red Wing Iron Ranger boots!

Looks amazing; a style that will never go out of style.

I am very happy with the jeans. They look sharp by not being skinny, or loose fitting, giving them a nice tailored look. They look much better than anything you can find at a big department store, even stores selling $1,000 jeans, like Saks Fifth Avenue in NY. These jeans look best with a casual shirt tucked in, or a T-shirt that is not very loose or hanging down too much, as they are not a casual looking fit; they have a tailored looking fit, that will never go out of style. The quality of the product is very good, with strong stitching, nice weight of denim, a good looking weave, and just the right amount of indigo. As all raw denim is concerned, these jeans too a few wears to break in and get rid of the slight stiffness; however, the material is very soft, so the break in period is still comfortable. After breaking in, the jeans still do not feel like a fit for very casual activities, as they have a tailored fit, rather than loose fitting. So if you want a jean to use for bending down, squatting or lounging around, these will not be the best ones, in my opinion. My only complaint is I do not like the look of having a selvedge at the back belt loop; I think it’s tacky, by showing off you paid more for a pair of jeans, for people who know what selvedge means for jeans. Although, I like the selvedge at the right coin pocket, b/c it provides a nice contrast of colors. People praise selvedge, b/c it is less likely to break down at the edge, but the truth is that most people have never seen a jean get damaged at the area where selvedge would be located. People see jeans damaged at the crotch, knees and pockets, never the area where the seam where the selvedge would be located.. Selvedge to me means the jeans were made on shuttle looms, giving a nice looking unique weave, that costs more to make unfortunately.

Can’t wait to break them in

So impressed with the craftsmanship and the fact that they are still made with Cone Denim...I bought three pairs! I’m set for the next 10-15 years. Huge fan of what you are doing with American craftsmanship. Will stop by if I’m ever in town.

How we do

EDITIONED LINE

We make these jeans in small runs and expect to sell every pair. A run might be as low as 40 and is rarely higher than 400. The leather patch on the back tells what number pair you have and how large the run size was.

OUR FIT MENTOR

In 2008, Chris Ellsberg, a master pattern maker with 60 years of experience, walked into our workshop and changed the game. She had heard we were making jeans with old-school methods and wanted to be a part of it. Back then, we didn’t have money to pay ourselves, much less Chris. But she signed on anyway because the work meant more to her than the money. Chris has taught us loads about the art of making jeans that flatter the lines of the body.

SECRET HIP BONES

After you’ve worn your jeans a few months, they’re no longer two dimensional. They become shaped like your body. So, we thought we’d give them bones. Victor found a hip x-ray and started silk-screening bones on the inside of the front pockets — in the anatomically correct position next to your real hip bones.

WASHING RAW DENIM

With our raw denims, we recommend 3-6 months of regular wear before washing for the best break-in.  We encourage a loose interpretation of the term "wash."

WE SIGN EVERY PAIR

When we started, we made every pair ourselves and signed each one. For us, it was just what you did when you made something and you were proud of it. Today, when one of our jeansmiths has reached a point where they’re as good or better than we are, we have a little ceremony and we give them a sharpie so they can start signing their work. Look for the signature on the inside front pocket.
